National Degree Registration process finalised
15 December, 2009
The New Zealand Qualifications Authority Board has approved the process for the registration of National Degrees, following consultation with the tertiary education sector in October-November 2009.
As a result, a process was developed that aligned the requirements for NQF registration with the statutory requirements for degrees.
NZQA's Board was fully informed on the outcomes of the consultation on the National Degree registration process and considered all sector views before making its decision.
NZQA's Deputy Chief Executive Quality Assurance, Tim Fowler said there would be a five step registration process which will be rigorously used when considering applications:
- Registration of unit standards on the NQF
- Registration of qualifications on the NQF
- NQF accreditation
- Course approval
- Accreditation to offer the course.
Tim Fowler said, "The quality of the applicant organisation will also be considered when the consent to grant a degree, course approval and accreditation processes are being followed. Confidence in the degree approval process is critical and NZQA will maintain its well-established, rigorous processes when considering applications for a National Degree."
