NCEA examinations end for 2009
4 December, 2009
The NCEA and NZ Scholarship examinations have now finished, with the last examination yesterday, Wednesday, December 2.
The focus next moves to marking the 1.84 million answer booklets for the almost 142,000 senior secondary school students who participated in this year's examinations.
A team of 2054 markers from around the country will mark all papers by Christmas, with NCEA results scheduled to reach candidates in mid-January. NZ Scholarship results are due to be delivered in mid-February.
Over the 16-day exam period, more than 68,000 candidates entered exams at level 1, as well as 55,000 candidates at level 2 and 36,000 candidates at level 3, with some students attempting exams in more than one level. In NZ Scholarship exams, 8,986 candidates attempted assessment across 33 subjects.
New Zealand is one of the only countries in the world to return marked examination papers to students - an important part of the transparency of the NCEA and Scholarship systems. Marked NCEA exam papers will be returned to candidates from late January.
All NCEA and Scholarship examination papers sat by students this year are already online on the NZQA website.
